PRODUCTION DOWNTIME IMMINENT!

Challenge

In the hectic everyday life of industry, time is money and an unexpected production downtime can have serious consequences. Imagine a vital conveyor belt in production suddenly comes to a halt because the supply belt is damaged. The clock is ticking, stress is rising and all eyes are on the supply bunkers. This scenario will be all too familiar to many in the industry. One of our major customers from the quarrying industry found the right solution with us.

Solution

The smart answer to this challenge is the STARCLEAN® Smart Scraper, an automated scraper with digital sensor technology, and an intelligent cloud dashboard. This system enables preventive detection of damage to the conveyor belt.

The detect - react - protect principle enables continuous, contact-based monitoring of the conveyor belt and thus ensures reliable operation of the conveyor belt system.

This is illustrated by the manner in which the customer integrated our systems. For instance, a reopening belt connection was detected on a newly retracted belt. After receiving a notification of Level 1 damage at position 16.20 m, the customer was able to check and repair the damage during a planned shutdown. As this belt supplies the bunker and ultimately the furnace, damage detection was critically important.

The system not only shows the extent and progression of the damage but also the exact position.
